Syngenta Seed Treatments Offer Sorghum Growers a Full Line of Protection
Until the last decade, sorghum growers had a limited arsenal for controlling soil and foliar insect pests. At planting, in-furrow granular and liquid materials were available but they were time-consuming to apply. Worker safety and handling were also a concern with these older chemistries. Now, insect seed treatments enable a producer to buy the protection on the seed, doing away with cumbersome chemical applications. At Garst, you can order your sorghum seed treated with Concep®III Safened Seed or Concep®III Safened Seed plus Cruiser®.
The superior performance of Cruiser is based on its chemistry. Its active ingredient, thiamethoxam, is derived from a subclass of neonicotiniod chemistry. It controls target pestes by interfering with receptors in the nervous system that transmit the message to continue eating. Cruiser acts on different mode of action sites in the insect than do organophosphates, carbamates or pyrethroids.
Cruiser protects the sorghum crop in two ways. First, it protects the seed prior to emergence from below-ground culprits like Wireworm that can destroy a crop before it gets started. Second, it translocates through the sorghum plant as it emerges, providing systemic protection from above-ground pests like Chinch bugs, Greenbugs and Yellow Sugarcane Aphids several weeks into the season. Simply put, Cruiser seed treatment insecticide brings growers a clear advantage in performance and more consistent protection from the most destructive sorghum pests.
